Why clearing matters
Once the free period at the port expires, storage and demurrage are charged daily by the shipping line and the port authority. The way to avoid them is to have the declaration and documents ready before the vessel arrives. We start work on your file while the cargo is still at sea.
What the service covers
- Checking the bill of lading, invoice and packing list before arrival
- Preparing and lodging the customs declaration
- Confirming the duty and tax position with you in advance
- Paying duties, port charges and terminal handling on your instruction
- Attending physical examination if customs requires it
- Obtaining release and gate-out of the container
- Stripping the container and returning the empty to the line
- Handover to our delivery team, or to you at the port
Documents required
The exact set depends on whether the cargo is personal effects or commercial goods. We confirm what is needed for your shipment and follow up anything missing.

Duty
Import duty and taxes are assessed by the Liberia Revenue Authority on the type of goods and their value, not on the freight cost. Two points to be aware of:
- An exact duty figure cannot be given before the declaration is assessed. We provide an estimate, show how it was calculated and state the range it may move within.
- Under-declaring value exposes you to penalties, seizure and delays, and invalidates cargo insurance. We do not lodge declarations we know to be inaccurate.
Cargo shipped by another company
We clear cargo we did not ship. Send us the bill of lading and the arrival notice and we will confirm the same day what is required to release it.
